TOKIWA – 移ろいゆく無数の存在を内包したもの –

This work expresses the memory of Tokiwa which flows continuously with the motif of the beach. (Tokiwa is a part of Ube City in Yamaguchi Prefecture. The kanji for Tokiwa means “unchanging stone.” It is said that the name, Ube, may originally come from the word “seashore.”)

The presence of the people who come and go in this area creates waves, and the scenery in front of us changes from moment to moment. There are times when the sea is calm, and there are times when it is rough. With all the various swells, the time carved into the land is woven together.

The countless beings and all the changes they bring about are contained within each moment, yet Tokiwa exists before us just as it is. No matter how turbulent the waves maybe, they will eventually return to calm, just like a serene ocean.
